Section V Indoor Track Championships.

Congratulations to.......

Leila Mantilla.  Leila was a winner in the 1,000 run (3:00.2) and
1,500 run (4:45.95) in girls Class A. 
 
Katie Lembo.   Katie won the 3,000 run:  10:38.23.
 
Melissa Tylock.  Melissa won the 1,500 race walk in 7:15.35.
 
 
Congratulations to Zach Andrews for his 2nd place result in the 600 run!


Section V Class A Swimming Championships

Penfield’s 200 free relay of Joe Mulvehill, Jeff Doser,

100 butterfly sectional champion Jason Gerlach and
Chris Gnam set a school record during their victory in 1:27.74.

“We did exactly what we wanted and we got the win along with that,’’

Gerlach said. “That is something like the cherry on top of the ice cream.’’

Penfield (70) vs Victor (54)
Led by seniors Kyle Covley, Trent Berardi, Dan Lynd and Aaron

Hawn Penfield raced to a runaway victory over Victor on
"senior night".  Covley had 23 points and six rebounds,
Berardi tallied 18,  Lynd had 8 and several assists and Hawn
hit for 3 and was a big defensive presence for Penfield.
Penfield finished the regular season at 13-5 which is the best
record in the program since 1995!

Penfield (56) at Victor (24)
Lucy Covley finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds and Margot Hetzke added 13 points and dished out five assists for Penfield (18-0), which finishes the regular season undefeated for the third time in four years.

Penfield (1) vs Gates Chili (2) - 3 OTs
Jake Mattiole scored seven seconds into the third overtime off
passes from Joe Drabin and Ken Gentzke to lift eighth-seeded
Gates Chili to a 2-1 win against Penfield in a Section V Class A
first round game Tuesday at Genesee Valley Ice Rink.  Justin
Rehm scored for the ninth-seeded Patriots (6-12-2-2).

Penfield (77) at Irondequoit (56)
Kyle Covley recorded 25 of his team-high 28 points in the second half and added 11 rebounds as Penfield pulled away (12-5).  Trent Berardi chipped in 17 points and Aaron Hawn grabbed 10 rebounds for the Patriots

Girls Basketball

Penfield (69) vs Irondequoit (39)
Margot Hetzke had 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead Penfield (17-0), which had 10 different scorers.  Sheila Nesselbush added seven offensive rebounds and seven assists for the Patriots, which trailed 6-0 to start the game but went on a 29-2 run over a nine minute span. Penfield secured the No. 1 seed for the Section V Class AAA tournament.

Sophomore Lucy Covley finished 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists and senior Megan Malloy added 16 points and six rebounds for the Patriots (16-0, 12-0), who clinched the Monroe County Division I title for the third time in four years.  Sophomore Margot Hetzke scored 12 points in the second half for Penfield.

Senior guard Kyle Covley tied a school record with 34 points, including all 11 points for Penfield (10-5) in the third quarter.   Covley also grabbed 13 rebounds.
The Patriots had a four-point lead at the start of the fourth and stretched it to 10 with about four minutes left.

Lucy Coveley made 8 of 10 shots from the field for a career-high 17 points for Penfield (15-0).  Megan Malloy had eight assists with her nine points and the Patriots shot 60 percent from the floor as a team.

Kyle Covley scored his 1,000th career point in Penfield's win over Webster Thomas....

Kyle Covley recorded his 1,000th career point and finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds as Penfield defeated Webster Thomas 69-55 in a Monroe County game on Wednesday.  Trent Berardi scored a career-high 21 points for the Patriots (9-5) and  Dan Lynd had 12 points.

Megan Malloy scored nine of her 16 points in the second quarter and also finished with six rebounds and six assists for the Patriots (14-0), who had 18 assists on 24 baskets.  Penfield shot 24 of 51 from the field.

Kyle Covley had 18 points, Lorenzo Stallworth 12 points and Dan Lynd had 11 points but Penfield (8-5) fell  to Franklin (11-2).  Penfield cut the lead to 7 in the fourth quarter but Franklin pulled away.

Kyle Covley and Lorenzo Stallworth each scored 16 points to pace Penfield (8-5).  Trent Berardi hit 14 as Penfield rolled past Canandaigua.

Margot Hetzke had 22 points to lead Penfield (13-0), which is ranked No. 5 in the state.  Megan Malloy added 15 points for the Patriots, who shot 48-percent from the field and 83-percent from the free throw line.

Sophomore Margot Hetzke scored 16 of her game-high 20 points in the second half and finished with 14 rebounds for the Partiots (12-0, 8-0).  Penfield went on an 8-0 run in the final three minutes of the third quarter to overcome a 42-35 deficit and take a one-point lead into the fourth.  Lucy Covley and Michelle Nesselbush each scored 16 points.  Covley added five assists.

Congratulations to Penfield Athletic Director Pete Shambo!!

Penfield's Shambo gets national honor
Penfield High School athletic director Peter Shambo was recently recognized as a Certified Master Athletic Administrator by the The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA).

The voluntary certification process included a thorough evaluation of Shambo's educational background, experience, NIAAA Leadership Courses and professional contributions.

The NIAAA is a national professional organization consisting of all 50 state athletic administrator associations and more than 8,000 individual members.
