PENFIELD SPORTS HEADLINES
Friday 05/18/2012
Girls Softball:  Penfield Lady Patriots defeat Victor 8-3 and end regular season as co-league champions. 
 
Penfield Lady Patriot Alicia Flanagan went 3-for-5 with an RBI double and Nikki Sheffer was 3-for-4 with an RBI for Penfield (14-6).
 
Boys Tennis:  Penfield defeats Rush Henrietta 6-1 
 
Penfield Patriot's Eric Hwang and Ryan Zu defeated L.J. Bean and Varun Mehta, 6-0, 6-0, at first doubles for Penfield (8-4).
 
Boys Baseball:  Penfield defeats Irondequoit 10-0
 
Matt Portland pitched his first career no-hitter with no walks and 15 strikeouts for Victor (16-4, 11-3) to win the Monroe County league title. Portland was throwing a perfect game through five innings before hitting the lead-off batter in the sixth. It was the only batter who reached base.
Penfield is 15-5, 10-4.

Girls Lacrosse:  Penfield Lady Patriots win with 5 seconds left in play to defeat Webster Thomas 11-10 
 
Penfield Lady Patriot Lyndsey Gamer scored with five seconds left in regulation to lift the Patriots. Gamer scored off a pass from Emma Powlin. Gamer finished with two goals.  Megan Malloy and Sheila Nesselbush led the Patriots (8-8) with three goals.
Kara Houppert finished with two goals for the Titans (8-8).
 
Boys Lacrosse:  Penfield defeats Orchard Park 13-8 
 
Andrew Schoeneck finished with two goals and three assists and Matt Bilak and Andrew Huntington each added four goals for the Patriots (11-4).  Keith Keehn recorded 13 saves for the win.  Orchard Park is 10-4.

Girls Softball:  Penfield defeats Irondequoit 5-0 
 
Penfield Lady Patriot Leah Crockett pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts and Alicia Flanagan went 4-for-4 with two RBI for Penfield (13-6).  Nikki Sheffer went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning for the Patriots.
 
Boys Tennis:  Penfield loses to Canandaigua 2-5 
 
Penfield Patriot's Ryan Zu defeated Ovais Tehir 6-2, 6-2 in first singles for Penfield (7-4).  Canandaigua is 2-10.
 
Boys Baseball:  Penfield defeats Irondequoit 10-0
 
Jonathan Crockett and Brandon Agostinelli each went 2-for-3 and Agostinelli added three RBI for Penfield (13-5).  Four Patriots pitchers combined to throw a three-hitter.

Boys Lacrosse:  Penfield defeats Webster Schroeder 13-4 
 
Andrew Schoeneck had a goal and three assists and Matt Condon scored three goals to lead Penfield (10-4).
 
Girls Lacrosse:  Penfield loses in double OT to Webster Schroeder 10-11 
 
Webster Lady Warrior Claire Costanza scored early in the second overtime to lift the Warriors (8-6).  Claire Bollin added the tying the goal in the first overtime for Schroeder.  Costanza finished with four goals and three assists and Bollin added three goals and one assist for Schroeder.

Sheila Nesselbush scored three goals and Megan Malloy added two goals and two assists for the Patriots.

Girls Softball:  Penfield defeats Fairport 7-2 
 
Alicia Flanagan went 3-for-4 with two RBI and Lizzy Marks finished 2-for-3 with three RBI for Penfield (12-6).  Allie Reynolds collected two RBI for the Patriots.
 
Boys Baseball:  Penfield lose to Fairport 2-9
 
Boys Tennis:  Penfield bagels Bishop Kearney 6-0 
 
Penfield Patriot's Kurt Pruner and Jeff Doser defeated Eric Eichelberger and Andrew Kurzweil 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 in first doubles for Penfield (6-4).  McQuaid is 7-3. 
 
Saturday 05/11/2012
Girls Softball:  Penfield loses in slug fest to Pittsford Sutherland 15-13 
 
Pittsford Sutherland's Hannah Desino hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Sydney Flemister went 4-for-4 with a double and four RBI for Pittsford Sutherland (11-7), which led 15-7 entering the seventh inning.
 
The Patriots scored six runs in the top of the 7th inning and with one out and the tying run up at bat, but second baseman Caitlin Hanrahan fielded the ground ball and turned a double play with shortstop Marissa O'Leary to end the game.
 
Alicia Flanagan had two hits and five RBI for Penfield (11-6).
 
Boys Baseball:  Penfield Fell to Baldwinsville 6-9

Girls Lacrosse:  Penfield defeats Pittsford Sutherland 8-7
 
Penfield Lady Patriot Megan Malloy finished with two goals and netted the winner, unassisted, with 2:02 remaining in the fourth quarter to lead Penfield (7-7).
Mia Pascuzzi stopped nine shots and Emma Towlin and Jill Vacanti and Shannon Nesselbussh chipped in a goal apiece for the Patriots.

Shannon Bissnette netted two goals and Kelsie Schindler added one for Pittsford (9-5).
 
Girls Softball:  Penfield records a win against Rush Henrietta 5-0 
 
Penfield Lady Patriot Leah Crockett pitched a one-hitter shut out, struck out nine and went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI from the plate for Penfield (11-5).  Allie Reynolds and Nikki Sheffer each recorded and RBI for the Patriots.
 
Boys Baseball:  Penfield defeats Rush Henrietta 6-0
 
David Nitsch threw a four-hitter, striking out five and walking two to lead Penfield (12-3, 9-2).  Dylan Burrows, Jonathan Crockett, Dylan Sheffer and Tim Burke each had two hits for the Patriots.
R-H is 7-6.

Boys Lacrosse:  Penfield defeats Canadaigua 10-6
 
Penfield Patriot Andrew Huntington scored five goals and assisted on another, and Andrew Schoeneck tallied four goals and an assist to pace Penfield (9-4).  Connor Russell won 16 of 19 faceoffs and corralled 10 ground balls, and Keith Keehn made 12 saves for the Patriots.  Penfield trailed 3-0 after the first quarter, but went on a 6-0 run in the second.

Brian Feldman and Dan LaCrosse each scored two goals for Canandaigua (6-6).

Girls Softball:  Penfield grabs win from Webster Thomas 4-3 
 
Penfield Patriot Eighth-grader Nikki Sheffer hit a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to score Kelly Burke for Penfield (10-5).  Burke singled with one out, moved to second on a hit batsman and Lizzy Marks loaded the bases with a single.  Alicia Flanagan went 4-for-4 with an RBI for the Patriots.
 
Girls Lacrosse:  Penfield defeats Fairport 14-6 
 
Penfield Lady Patriot Shelia Nesselbush scored three goals with three assists and Megan Malloy added two goals and two assists for Penfield (6-7).

 
Boys Baseball:  Penfield loses to Webster Thomas 3-1
 
Webster Titan Mike Ballou went 2-for-3 with two RBI and Steve DiNicola was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBI for Webster Thomas (8-5, 5-4), which scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-5 lead.  Webster Titan Trevor Thomas added two hits and an RBI and Chris Morgan threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win.

Cody Wiktorski hit a three-run single for Penfield (11-3, 8-2), but suffered a season ending hamstring injury, leaving the game in the second inning.   Dylan Sheffer recorded his first loss this season.

Boys Baseball:  Penfield defeats Canadaigua 3-1
 
Penfield Patriot Davio Caquias was 3-for-3 and Cody Wiktorski was 1-for-3 with and notched an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth for Penfield (11-2, 8-1).

Dylan Sheffer was 2-for-3 and Pierce Hawley recorded his first varsity win with a three hitter and seven strikeouts for the Patriots.
 
Girls Softball:  Penfield defeats Canandaigua 14-5
 
Penfield Lady Patiot Leah Crockett gave up five hits and stuck out 15 and went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI at the plate for Penfield (9-5).  Alicia Flanagan was 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and three runs scored.
 
Girls Lacrosse:  Penfield wins in OT over Webster Thomas 9-8 
 
Penfield Lady Patriot Megan Malloy, unassisted the winner with six seconds remaining in over time to lead Penfield (5-7).

Eileen Connal and Dana Plakosh each notched two goals and one assists for the Patirots, which led 5-1 at halftime.

Rachel Comella scored unassisted with 54 seconds remaining to tie the score at 8-8 for Webster Thomas (7-4).

Emily Resnick scored three goals for the Titans.

Girls Lacrosse:  Penfield loses Victor 8-14 
 
Victor's Hannah Savage scored five goals and dished out five assists and Meghan Maloney added four goals with one assist for Victor (9-3).  Jenny Ryan recorded 10 saves in goal for the Blue Devils.

Dana Phlakosh scored two goals for Penfield (4-7).

Boys Tennis:  Penfield bagels Bishop Kearney 6-0 
 
Josh Newby and Mike McLaughlin won 6-2, 6-0 at second doubles for Penfield (5-4).
Bishop Kearney is 2-7.
 
Girls Softball:  Penfield takes tough loss against Webster Schroeder 2-3
 
Penfield let in two early runs in the 1st inning, but battled back in the 4th with a solo home run by Leah Crockett and a 7th inning, two out, game tying single by Liz Marks to score Abbey Dennet to take the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the 8th, Schroeder's Katelyn Dennis singled, advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on Bridget Snover's walk off single to center to give Schroeder the win.
 
Boys Baseball:  Penfield records another win against Webster Schroeder 11-3
 
Cody Wiktorski was 2-for-4 with two RBI and Brandon Agostinelli finished 2-for-3 with one RBI for Penfield (10-2).

Andy Stein was 1-for-2 with two RBI for Webster Schroeder.

Boys Tennis:  Penfield loses Victor 2-5 
 
Victor's Naran Babha and Aaron Jo defeated Nick Bosso and Aaron Lindsay 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 at third doubles for the Blue Devils (5-3).
 
Boys Lacrosse:  Penfield wins big against Victor 17-5 
 
Penfield Patriot Matt Bilak finished with four goals and one assist and Matt Condon added two goals and two assists for Penfield (8-4).  Connor Russell won 13 of 17 faceoffs and added seven ground balls and one goal for Penfield.  Mike Larkin added three goals for Penfield.

John Maloney scored three goals for Victor (4-7).
 
Girls Lacrosse:  Penfield records loss against Rush Henrietta 5-8 
 
RH's Olivia Keirn scored three goals and Marisa Paris added two goals for the Royal Comets (6-4).  Alyssa Saxon recorded 16 saves for the win. 
 
Penfield Lady Patriot Jill Vacanti scored twice for the Patriots (4-7).  R-H led 6-2 at halftime.

Boys Baseball:  Penfield defeats Victor 2-0
 
Dylan Burrows hit an RBI double in the fifth inning and Brandon Agostinelli added an RBI groundout two batters later with the bases loaded to lead Penfield (9-2) to their fourth straight win.  Dylan Sheffer threw a four-hitter for the Patriots.  Dale Wickham had two hits for Victor (10-3).
 
Girls Softball:  Penfield loses to Victor 0-1
 
Blue Devil's Bethany DeMarco hit a solo home run to left center in the bottom of the fourth for Victor (4-4).  Freshman Nicolette Kulakowski threw a complete game, scattering six hits and walking five with five strikeouts for the Blue Devils. 
 
Leah Crockett tossed a three-hitter with seven strikeouts for Penfield.

Boys Lacrosse:  Penfield loses to Fairport 6-9 
 
Fairport Senior Kyle Sterzin scored twice during the fourth quarter to propel the Red Raiders (10-0). Fairport outscored Penfield (7-4) 4-1 in the fourth quarter.  Penfield Andrew Schoeneck scored twice for the Patriots. 
 
Girls Lacrosse:  Penfield defeats Webster Schroeder 14-4 
 
Emma Powlin finished with two goals and four assists for Penfield (4-5), which had eight different scorers.  Mia Pascuzzi made eight saves for the Patriots, who opened the game on a 6-0 run.  Schroeder is 5-3. 
 
Boys Tennis:  Penfield loses to Fairport 2-5 
 
Fairport's Kevin Kulaweic defeated Eric Hwang 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 in second singles and Michael Ledwin was a winner over Penfield's Mike Griffin 6-4, 7-5 to help give Fairport (4-4) the win.  Penfield is 4-3.
 
Girls Softball:  Penfield gets win against Webster Thomas 6-2
 
Freshman Leah Crockett pitched a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts for the win and also doubled twice with two RBIs for the Patriots (8-3).  Junior Alicia Flanagan went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and three runs scored for Penfield. Thomas is 4-5.
 
Boys Baseball:  Penfield defeats Webster Thomas 2-1
 
Tim Burke hit a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh to score Mitch Cote to lift the Patriots (8-2).  David Nitsch pitched a complete game for the win.  Connor McCabe was 3-for-3 for the Titans.

Boys Baseball:  Penfield defeats Irondequoit 14-6
 
Tim Burke finished with six RBI on two hits and Dylan Sheffer added two hits with three RBI for Penfield (7-2,4-1).
 
Girls Softball:  Penfield records win against Irondequoit 2-0
 
Leah Crockett pitched a two-hitter with three walks and 14 strikeouts and went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Penfield (7-3). Alicia Flanagan also went 2-for-3 for the Patriots.  
 
Boys Tennis:  Penfield loses to Webster Schroeder 2-5 
 
Gregor Heusser defeated Lee Taylor 7-5, 6-2 at third singles for Webster Schroeder (4-1).

Boys Lacrosse:  Penfield wins against West Seneca 18-4 
 
Mike Larkin scored a game-high four goals and John Spaan added three goals with one assist for Penfield (7-3), which had 10 different goal scorers.

Connor Russell won 13-of-17 faceoffs and added two goals and Matt Bilak had one goal with three assists for the Patriots.

Girls Lacrosse:  Penfield gets win against Pittsford Sutherland 8-7 
 
Sheila Nesselbush, who finished with two goals, scored off an assist from Eileen Connal with 3:37 for Penfield (3-5), which trailed 6-3 with 15 minutes left.
Anne Mary Baker scored her first varsity goal to ignite a 3-0 run for the Patriots. Connal had a goal and two assists.  Shannon Nesselbush scored one goal with one assist and Emma Powlin, Jill Vacanti, AnnMary Baker, and Lindsay Gamer each scored one goal
Kelsie Schindler scored to give Pittsford (5-3) a 7-6 lead and Lindsey Gamer tied it at 7 for Penfield.
 
Girls Softball:  Penfield beats Fairport 5-4
 
Abby Dennett scored on a single by Allie Reynolds to give Penfield a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Reynolds finished 3-for-4 and Bennett was 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
Leah Crockett struck out nine for the win and also went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Patriots (6-3).
Jillian Gueli had two hits and scored a run for Fairport (4-4).
 
Boys Tennis:  Penfield defeats Spencerport 7-0 
 
Jeff Doser and Reagan Weaver won 6-0, 6-0 at first doubles for the Patriots (4-1).
Spencerport is 0-5.
 
Boys Baseball:  Penfield defeats Fairport extra innings 2-1
 
In the top of the 8th inning, Penfield (6-2, 3-1) scored both of its runs on a misjudged fly ball to the outfield. Jonathan Crockett and Brandon Agostinelli scored on the play.
Dylan Sheffer pitched 7 1/3 with four hits allowed and struck out five for the Patriots.
Conner Simonetti struck out seven in seven innings for the Red Raiders.

Boys Lacrosse:  Penfield loses Irondequoit 7-9 
 
Andrew Schoeneck finished with four goals and one assist for the Patriots (6-3).

Boys Tennis:  Penfield defeats Brockport 5-2 
 
Mike Griffin defeated Kyle Goodell 6-2, 6-2 in second singles for Penfield (3-1).
Brockport is 4-4.
 
Girls Softball:  Penfield defeats Rush Henrietta 2-1
 
In the bottom of the 8th inning Abby Dennett hit a walk off single into right field driving in Alicia Flanagan to give Penfield (5-3) the win.  Flanagan, who went 2-for-3, singled and advanced to second on Allie Reynolds' walk. Flanagan also scored from second on a single by Leah Crockett to tie the game at 1 in the sixth inning. Crockett threw a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
Taylor Greiger tossed a five-hitter with nine strikeouts for R-H.
 
Boys Baseball:  Penfield loses to Rush Henrietta 5-6
 
Penfield's Tim Burke hit a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to give Penfield a 5-4 lead.  But, Eric Nestler converted a two out single to left field to score Christian Harris in the top of the eighth inning for Rush Henrietta (3-2, 3-0) to take the lead and ultimately win the game. 
 
 
Girls Lacrosse:  Penfield loses to Fairport 7-11

Boys Lacrosse:  Penfield defeats Webster Thomas 13-4 
 
Andrew Schoeneck finished with two goals and two assists and Jonathan Spaan added two goals and one assist for Penfield (6-2).  Matt Bilak chipped in one goal and two assists for the Patriots, who had 11 different players register points.
John Bezek recorded 10 saves for the Titans. Four different players scored for Webster Thomas (4-5).

Girls Lacrosse:  Penfield loses to Rush Henrietta 6-5 
 
Marisa Paris and Tessa Mitchell each scored twice and Alyssa Saxon made 15 saves for Rush-Henrietta (5-1), which took a 6-4 lead with eight minutes left.
Dana Plakosh had two goals, including one to cut the deficit to 6-5 with 50 seconds remaining, for Penfield (2-4).

Boys Tennis:  Penfield loses to Webster Thomas 7-0 
 
Troy Thomas and Jesse Pan defeated Kurt Pruner and Jeff Doser, 7-6 (0), 6-1, at first doubles for Thomas (6-1).
 
Girls Softball:  Penfield defeats Canandaigua 15-3
 
Leah Crockett pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the win and also doubled twice with two RBI for the Patriots (4-3).  Alicia Flanagan went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI, and two runs scored for Penfield.  Chloe Handelman was 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and three RBI for Penfield.
 
Casey Lucas went 2-for-3 for the Braves.
 
Boys Baseball:  Penfield defeats Canandaigua 14-6
 
Tim Burke was 4-for-5, including a three-run home run and four RBI to lead Penfield (5-1).  Brandon Agostinelli tallied three hits with two RBI and Tom Campbell was 2-for-3.
Patrick Carbary hit a two-run double for Canandaigua.

Boys Tennis:  Penfield defeats Irondequoit 5-2
 
Lee Taylor defeated Jordan Mroczek 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) at third singles for Penfield (2-0).
Irondequoit is 2-2.
 
Boys Lacrosse:  Penfield (5-2) loses to Penn Yan (8-0) 8-10

Girls Softball:  Penfield defeats Webster Schroeder 7-5
 
Leah Crockett tossed a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and Alicia Flanagan hit a three-run double to put Penfield (3-3) ahead 4-0. Abby Dennett and Kelly Burke each added an RBI for the Patriots.  Alissa Dixon struck out 11 for the Warriors.
 
Boys Baseball:  Penfield defeats to Webster Schroeder 5-0
 
Jonathan Crockett was 3-for-4 with two RBI and Tom Campbell was 2-for-3 for Penfield (4-1).  Dylan Sheffer threw a complete game shutout, allowing three hits with eight strikeouts for the Patriots.  Conrad Ziemdorf was 2-for-4 with a double for Webster Schroeder (2-2).

Senior Dan Maring finished three goals and an assist and Andrew Huntington finished with two goals and two assists to pace Penfield. Andrew Schoeneck tacked on three goals for the Patriots (5-1), who had players with at least a point.
 
Girls Lacrosse:  Penfield loses to Irondequoit 11-12 
 
Eileen Connal and Shannon Nesselbush each had two goals and one assist.  Megan Malloy had one goal and one assist.  Dana Plakosh, Lindsay Gamer scored two goals and Sheila Nesselbush and Jill Vacanti each scored one goal.  Michelle Nesselbush added one assist.  Mia Pascuzzi had seven saves for Penfield.

Penfield Varsity Girls Lacrosse (2-0) won their second home game with a 13 to 11 score over HFL.  Seniors Dana Plakosh and Eileen Connal and sophomores Jill Vacanti and Shannon Nesselbush and freshman Lindsay Gamer each scored two goals with one assist for Dana.  Senior Megan Malloy had one goal and two assists.  Junior Sheila Nesselbush, and sophomore Emma Powlin each scored one goal with one assist.  Gabby Farina and Rebekah Warner each had one assist.    Their next game is Wednesday, April 4th at 7:00 at Canandaigua.

Boys Lacrosse:  Penfield defeats HF-L (14-8)
 
Senior Andrew Huntington scored six goals and Matt Condon and Jake Aldridge each finished with one goal and two assists as Penfield defeated Honeoye Falls-Lima 14-8 in Monroe County boys lacrosse Tuesday.  Andrew Schoeneck and Connor Russell each added two goals for the Patriots (1-0).  Nick Weston finished with four goals and Chandler Clark added a goal and three assists for HF-L.

Girls Lacrosse:  Penfield wins over Brockport (16-2)
 
Varsity Girls Lacrosse opened the season with a 16 to 2 win over Brockport.  Dana Plakosh and Jill Vacanti scored four goals, Sheila Nesselbush and Shannon Nesselbush scored two goals and Eileen Connal, Megan Malloy, MacKenzie Maring and Lindsay Gamer each scored one goal.  Their next game is Wednesday, March 28th at 4:30 against HFL, at Penfield High school.

PHS Varisity Cheerleaders take 2nd place at the National Cheerleading Association Open High School Competition in Louisville, KY
March 03 & 04, 2012.  Congratulations to our Penfield Varsity Cheerleaders who were in 1st place at the preliminaries and finished 2nd place at the National Cheerleading Association Open High School Competition in Louisville, KY this past weekend! The team was among 6 schools in the Large Advanced High School Division and finished 4th overall against 41 schools. Thank you to all that helped sponsor and get them there. Fabulous job to the Ladies of Penfield and Coach Carolyn Valenti!

Penfield's Shambo gets national honor
Penfield High School athletic director Peter Shambo was recently recognized as a Certified Master Athletic Administrator by the The National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA).

The voluntary certification process included a thorough evaluation of Shambo's educational background, experience, NIAAA Leadership Courses and professional contributions.

The NIAAA is a national professional organization consisting of all 50 state athletic administrator associations and more than 8,000 individual members.
